Wistfully, I

Wistfully, I

Wistfully I stare
Runners so carefree and light
Bounding over the roads
Without care or restraint

Wistfully I read
Training schedules fired up
Mileage and intervals to power up
Cardio, endurance, burn, burn, burn

Wistfully I imagine
A time when I could bound without restraint
A period when I could fire up and go forever
A phase when I had speed without pain

Wistfully I sigh
How I wished to be on the roads
Wistfully I plead
My knee should be more cooperative

Wistfully I hope

Hairpee Birdday

My charming friend, Linda, penned this for me, together with inputs from Joyce, Chee Meng, Joanne, Alex and Alvin. Hilarious! Thanks guys. My little reply is below. :)

Hairpee Birdday

run run (bun) run
bun bun bun (run)
Give her a bun,
so she can run;
or does she run,
to earn her bun?!
Such is the life of our dear Phei Sunn.

*hmm, maybe that's too simplistic -
let us be more realistic:
muffins, ice cream, chocolate, rice...
all desserts made of sugar and spice -
all of these will never escape
once she puts on her gourmet's cape!

Aiming for epicurean bliss?
Just ask this snazzy savvy miss;
voila, you'll have in your fist:
your well-researched dessert A-list!

She's lucky to have achieved a balance
with other fat-burning passions:
she loves running and climbing
(and more uselessly, writing);
else, instead of setting us drooling,
we'll probably just see her waddling!

Indeed, her figure's so svelte,
she maintains it well.
She always makes us melt,
cause she's the best pal...

For this special '3-long-2-short' year,
we'd like to send a special mail order:
Send in oodles of kaching and laughter,
and finally, someone just worthy of her.

Cheers.
(it's time for dessert)

P.S. We love you.
p.p.s. Xiaoming: on your future mountains, be friendly to Koreans; and to a group photo do submit, before we embark on the summit! :p

A Hairpee Reply

Yes yes, must run to earn my bun
A bum like a bun is so not fun
I can well be an epicurean bliss
But I'm usually a manicurean miss

Fat-burning passions are very cool
Ever seen a muffin waddling in the pool?
I hope your mail order will come soon
A special someone to take me over the moon

Thank you for this poem that brings a smile
Your gems of wishes would light the Nile :)

Muffins Spill

Muffins Spill

Muffins muffins on the spill
Reek of chocolates one too many
Peeping over my waistline seams
Hide and seek they seem to play
Light and fluffy pinchables
One more kg they taunt all day
Yet resistance is naught
For my sweet tooth beckons

Two Special Individuals; One Remarkable Journey

This wedding poem is dedicated to two good running friends, Ong & Jaime.

Two Special Individuals; One Remarkable Journey

Two delightful faces at the racing start
Hand-in-hand you cross the mat
May you be blessed with the energy to last it all
And the endurance to sustain through

This special couple, I wish you both
A lifetime of happy celebrations and strong recoveries
To love each other through joy and pain
And have little angels just like you

Through terrain change and spectator cheers
May your hearts sync, as two become one
Your journey of a hundred years
On this 4th November it begins

To our golden pair, we celebrate
Your courage, love and commitment
To start and end, together across the lines
Two special individuals, One remarkable journey

Congratulations!

A Little Birthday Reflection

A little birthday reflection

I first saw a lean tanned guy
Trying hard to address a crowd
As he tried to project his voice
Each time he spoke
A hand coolly perched on his back
The other gesticulating away
His body weight slightly on one foot
His face slightly turned

I soon learned he was the trainer
Whose training plans I eagerly await
Every Monday before 830am
My Inbox I would check
One week it was late
Repeated refreshing brought nil mails
What relief as it finally beeped
With the awaited plan at 10am

Many speed and distance runs
Across interesting routes and mixed terrains
Through unknown roads and linkages
Hidden estates we bashed through
Cantebury Portsdown discovered
Brings much respite to the runs
Easing the pounding monotony
And hard panting breaths

On this twenty-ninth of September
As you turn two past thirty years
I wish you many more happy returns
As you attain many better PBs
Amongst the greatest one we can never beat
Your choice of significant other
As you continue your journey with her
Have a happy birthday, Ong

A Last Climb

This is for my climbing team-mates from the Singapore Women's Everest Team.

A Last Climb

As the trip draws close,
My apprehension grows.
This could be it,
The last climb, I fear.

A journey this far,
It seeps into your life.
Every aspect touched.
All senses engulfed.

But not a tinge of regret,
Should curtains be drawn.
If scenes could replay,
I would wish the same cast.

A path less trodden,
A life more lived.

Thank you,
For walking it together.

The Tipping Scales

The Tipping Scales

The scales have tipped!
Finally they beeped
An annoymous 2-kilos
Jostling to say hellos

In frenzy mode the brain retrace
Possible culprits for the case
Muscle mass the mind consoles
Helps in reaching summit goals

The pants differ, it spills over!
Prata, choc-chips take cover
Midnight suppers I confess
Sweet indulgences for this mess

As the dessert crevasse beckons
And self-rescue will weakens
Retail therapy's worth a fling
Out I went to buy a purple sling

The scales have tipped!
I don't care if they don't dip
The next Oreo won't ring a bell
For in Nepal, I'll bid farewell....

It Only Gets Better

It Only Gets Better

I thought I was strong
But I was wrong
When I look in your face
My defenses melt

I thought I was upset
But not for long
When I stare in your eyes
My anger quells

The tenderness in your face
And love in your eyes
Will thaw my icy mask
And hush the raging gale

I close my eyes and yield
In your reassuring whispers
And shielding hugs
I surrender

It only gets better…

Lost Love

Lost Love

With a heavy heart, I pen this
For hopes and dreams that never be
Les-Mis in London I’ll miss
Love and concern I’ll never know
Bitter-sweet memories banished
Locked forever in the depths of heart

A short selection of songs for you
A reminder of better times that passed
Self-explanatory you’d understand
Hear the words in the last two songs
Conveying my deepest thoughts
Springing tears to eyes each time

I hope things will turn out well
I know I’ve lost and hurt a lot
A love who taught me what life is
A pillar of strength when things are down
I’d gladly give up everything
For those special moments once again
